Joh Eh Ba Dop: Our new album has a story.

Momo & The Coop started recording a 16-track album during the spring semester of 2009. Jonah Geil-Neufeld, a bass in the group, recorded the group in Evans music center at Lewis & Clark College. The songs were all recorded with the group singing the backup first and the soloist recording separately while listening to the group’s recording in headphones. Some of the solos were recorded in Jonah’s dorm room, and Jodi’s (an alto in the group) house.
Going home for the summer to Chicago, Jonah’s friend Dorian mixed the tracks and mastered them to ready them for production. At the end of the summer, Mac (a bass in the group) began making the album art for the album. The Master CD and album artwork were sent to a production company in Texas at the beginning of the fall 2009 semester.
The group received funding from Lewis & Clark’s Student Academic Affairs Board (SAAB) and it’s Alumni Office. The group’s sophomore album, “Joh Eh Ba Dop” gets its name from one of the album’s songs, “Long Train Runnin’/Black Water” by The Doobie Brothers. The title is the first four syllables that are sung in the song. The 16-track album includes old favorites such as “Iris,” “Billie Jean,” and “I’d Rather Dance With You,” as well as new songs like “The District Sleeps Alone Tonight” and “Feeling Good.”
The album will be released October 2009, and will be free with donations accepted. All tracks on the album will be downloaded for free on momoandthecoop.com.

Aren’t four of the songs on this album, including Hide and Seek, Mad World, High and Dry, and Long Train Runnin’ (from which you derived the album’s title) arrangements by the UNC Achordants? You might have modified some of it for a co-ed ensemble, but I think they deserve some credit. That being said, it sounds great, keep up the good work!

Yes! Yuri Broze (previously in UNC Achordants) is a great a cappella composer, and he does deserve credit for a couple of our songs. (He actually deserves credit for arrangements of numerous a cappella groups nationwide, because his arrangements are free and online. Spread the love!) Here’s his web: http://www.yuribroze.com/.
